7. Practical Training, Workwear & Safety

7.1 Practical Training Environment
Many of our courses involve hands-on practical training delivered in a workshop environment. Learners will work with tools, pipework, equipment, and materials commonly used within the plumbing and heating industry.

7.2 Workwear Requirements
Learners must attend all practical sessions wearing appropriate workwear suitable for a workshop environment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Work trousers (shorts are not permitted)
  • Sturdy work shoes or safety footwear
  • Practical clothing appropriate for hands-on training

For health and safety reasons, learners wearing unsuitable clothing or footwear may be refused access to practical sessions and asked to return home to change. Any training time missed as a result remains the learner’s responsibility.

7.3 Health & Safety Compliance
Learners must follow all health and safety instructions provided by tutors and staff at all times. Failure to comply with safety requirements may result in removal from practical sessions or, in serious cases, termination of enrolment without refund.

7.4 Minor Injuries & Accidents
Practical training carries a normal level of risk. Minor injuries, such as small cuts or abrasions, may occasionally occur when using tools or handling materials.

Where appropriate:

  • Minor injuries will be treated on-site
  • An accident report will be completed
  • Learners will be advised to seek further medical attention from their GP or A&E if required

Learners acknowledge that they are responsible adults and accept the inherent risks associated with practical plumbing and heating training.

7.5 Assumption of Risk
By enrolling on a course involving practical training, learners acknowledge and accept the normal risks associated with workshop-based learning and agree to take reasonable care for their own health and safety.
